Introducing….

Hey everyone in the Blogoshere! I’m Cerise, nice to meet you. I’m just your average G.R.I.T.S (Girl Raised In The South) from High Point, NC. I’m 35, no kids and enjoying life. I like to say I’m a Prissy Tomboy meaning that I love things like basketball, football, wrestling, horse playing, jerseys, track, sports bars, baggy sweatpants, hanging out with the boys but I also love things like shopping, dancing, cooking, dressing up, make-up, shoes, photoshoots, girls night and cocktails, so I’m the perfect Yin-Yang between sexes. My passion lays in Photography, writing and music amongst trying to be the best role model I can be for my nieces, nephews and God-Daughters.

I think my life was changed forever on June 26, 2015 when I learned that I have Cancer. Carcinoid Cancer to be exact, in my small intestine. This blog is meant to reach out to those who are or have gone through the same experience that I have. Sometimes we just need to know that someone out there is going through the same things that we are so that we don’t feel so alone in our fight. Everyone deals with their diagnostics in different ways. I chose writing. My sister was the one that suggested that I make it a blog so that others could find it (Thanks Risa!!). I’ve often learned that you never know who you could help just by writing about what’s going on with you, so that’s what I’m doing. While I can sort of have a therapy session for myself, maybe someone, somewhere will read this and say “Hey, she’s going through the same thing I am. I’m not alone in this.” And you are absolutely correct. You are not alone!

I started writing this blog in July when I got out of the hospital. Some of the post I had to write from memory because I was just too weak to start them. I can say that I have learned a lot about myself and the people I love since I became sick. I have also conquered a couple of fears along the way as well, and have learned to look at life with a better perspective. But you will find out about all this and more as you read along and take this journey with me. I hope that it provides the same comfort that it has to me while writing it. At times it won’t be easy and I’m sure to keep a box of tissues by my side for those times when it’s hard to talk about what is going on but I gotta keep pushing through this. WE have to keep pushing through this. Because we are strong enough to do it.

The name of my blog is Your Worthy Opponent. My father told me that one night when I was talking to my parents about my diagnostic and how they felt about it. He basically told me “God doesn’t give us more than we can handle. Because of that, you are a worthy opponent and you WILL beat this!” Ever since then I have looked at this situation as another obstacle that life has thrown at me for me to overcome. Then my oldest sister told me that I am “more than a conqueror” and that solidified it. It’s time to put on my boxing gloves, and FIGHT! Armed with Joshua 1:9 and Romans 8:37 as my left and right hooks, I plan to KO Carcinoid Cancer all the way into remission and hold up that Championship belt. So, with that being said, head on up to the top of the screen to the “menu” button to read top to bottom (don’t forget to enter your email to follow and subscribe) and let’s start this journey together!

Love, You’re Worthy Opponent,

Cerise

  1. You are right, you can beat this! My motto is “God is bigger than cancer!” With God, all things are possible! I also found writing therapeutic and captured my journey in my book, Life, Hope, and Healing…Surviving A Cancer Diagnosis.
